Most parents enjoy the pleasure of seeing their children grow. It is a very exciting time as their development is very rapid, and ever changing. Many parents soon realise that their children’s teeth are not sitting correctly and seek advice.
Unfortunately, they are normally told to wait until all the permanent teeth have erupted before embarking on an Orthodontic pathway.
This is poor advice, as so very much more can be done for your child at a much earlier age.
We like to see children as young as 5 years of age. The earlier we see them the easier it is to actually modify and correct many of the bad oral muscular or myofunctional habits.
It is now proven that these are the bad habits that cause the teeth to be crooked in the first instance. Early correction of these myofunctional habits:
- Encourages nasal breathing
- Corrects the positioning of the jaws and teeth
- Encourages normal forward facial growth, creating better looking faces
- Improves overall general health, and posture of the growing child
